The Ancora Introduction:

The Ancora hotel, build in 1826 in a typical Ampezzano style, is one of the oldest hotels in Cortina. The owners decorated the hotel’s interiors with fine antique furniture creating an elegant historic ambiance. Cortina is the famous and elite resort town, know for its exclusive clientele, fabulous shopping and the hospitality of the mountain people. Cortina D'Ampezzo has, for nearly a century, been the most fashionable resort city in the breathtaking Dolomite Mountain region. Cortina lies in a valley of beautiful mountains that offer cross-country and downhill skiing, bobsledding and skating in winter; there are lovely hiking trails in summer. Naturally, the emphasis in this resort town is on having fun-it's hard to avoid.

The Hotel also sponsors a literary and artistic salon hosted by the well-known writer Milena Milani. The salon offers exhibitions by illustrious painters, sculptors and other artists as well as conferences and cultural debates.

Splendid restaurant with gothic arches hand-painted in shades of blue invites guests to savor beautifully presented international dishes that are a pleasure to see and to eat. Candle light and classical music create cozy atmosphere. The restaurant is open to the public. In The Artist’s Tavern, open at night and decorated with hand-painted ceramics, guests will enjoy a variety of delicious dishes.

The Viennese Terrace is a large sunny area with windows over the famous Corso Italia, the promenade of Cortina. It was designed in memory of Francesco Giuseppe, the Emperor of Austria. The terrace include a restaurant/cafe decorated in Biedermeier style that is also used as a meeting room. Guests will enjoy having breakfast and lunch in the terrace admiring the flowers, splendid views of Cortina and the Dolomite Alps. HOW TO GET THERE

 

Train + Bus

If you prefer travelling by train, the main railway line is Venezia S.Lucia – Calalzo di Cadore, then transfer to Cortina by a connected bus service.
The nearest railway station is at Calalzo di Cadore, 35 km away.
The through journey from Venice to Cortina takes about 3,5 hours (train+bus).

New service: "The mountain railways"
In the daytime, Eurostar Italia services run from Rome to Milan for Mestre/Cortina and in the night, Treno Notte services run from Rome to Calalzo.
The initiative allows you to travel by Eurostar Italia from Rome (Roma Termini station) and from Milan to Mestre (mainland Venice). From Mestre, special shuttle buses wait to take you to Cortina, with connections coinciding with the arrival/departure times of your train.
On the north there is the Fortezza-Dobbiaco railway line. Transfer to Cortina by bus (www.sii.bz.it). From Fortezza to Cortina it takes about 2 hours (train+bus).
From Innsbruck, there are trains leaving each hour from 11,30am to 8,00pm. It takes about 4 hours to get to Cortina.

 

Bus

- bus service between Mestre railway station and Cortina d'Ampezzo (Bus line Cortina Express) in connection with the Eurostar trains from/to Milan.

- bus service between Bologna railway station and Cortina d'Ampezzo (Bus line Cortina Express/Zani) in connection with the Eurostar trains from/to Florence-Rome-Naples and with the "Adriatica" line (Rimini-Ancona-Pescara-Bari)

The journey from/to Mestre takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes and from/to Bologna 3 hours and 55 min. It is possible to pay the ticket on board. For further information, please contact Seam Office at

There are also regular bus services to and from Venice with stop at Mestre and Treviso. The travel takes about 3 hours and 15 min. During the high season there is a daily service, whereas, in other periods of the year, the service is on Saturdays and Sundays only. Booking at the SE.AM ticket office in Cortina is required (service not available by telephone).

CAR

(As you drive in the direction of Cortina from Venice, past Longarone and the villages of Tai and Valle in Cadore, you enter the valley of the river Boite, with the impressive mount Pelmo on your left and mount Antelao on your right.
After a few miles, past the village of San Vito, the most spectacular view is going to disclose in front of your eyes: the Ampezzo valley in all its beauty, surrounded by its magic mountains, and Cortina with its tower bell, sitting right in the middle.
This is the main way to reach Cortina, and the only one that does not demand driving through mountain passes.)

From South
, You can reach Cortina on the motorway A27 from Venezia/Mestre exiting Pian di Vedoja (Belluno) and following indications to Cortina on SS 51 Alemagna road. from Mestre it takes approx. 2 hours.

From motorway A22 Brennero, from north, exit to Bressanone following to Dobbiaco and then to Cortina. from Bressanone, you can reach Cortina in approx. 1 hour.

By car, you can drive counter clockwise around Cortina on a one-way road. Along the road you will find the signposts to reach the hotels and the most interesting attractions.

Driving from south, that is from Belluno-Venice (SS51 of Alemagna), you will find the signposts for Passo Tre CrociAuronzoMisurina (SS48bis of the Dolomites), on the east;
Dobbiaco - BolzanoBrennero (SS51 of Alemagna) on the north;
Passo Falzarego and Passo Pordoi (SS48bis of the Dolomites) on the west.
